A husband is in police custody after his wife was found dead in Rutherford County early Thursday morning.
Jacob Pearman, 28, of Murfreesboro, is charged in connection with the death of his wife of just three months.
At about 3:20 a.m., 911 received a phone call of a person possibly contemplating suicide at a home in the 800 block of Kanatak Lane off Fortress Boulevard, according to Murfreesboro police.
According to a police report, Jacob Pearman, 30, had sent a text message to his parents threatening to kill himself.
Officers arrived at the residence and discovered the man's wife, 30-year-old Carla Pearman, dead in a bedroom. There was blood on her face and pillow, and a white, plastic drawstring garbage bag was found next to her on a bed, according the police report, but officials have not reported how she died.
"I was completely shocked by it," said neighbor Mary Beth Gochcoff. "It just goes to show you don't really know what they are going through."
At about 5:50 a.m., Jacob Pearman was arrested without incident by a Manchester, TN, police officer on Interstate 24 East near mile marker 111.
Jacob Pearman is charged with first-degree murder, and police said he admitted to the crime during an interview with detectives.
Investigators have not released a motive in the killing.
Channel 4 News has learned Jacob Pearman has been scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning on a charge of aggravated child abuse of his 7-year-old step-son. According to a warrant, police responded to Blackman Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012, where the young boy said his step-father came into his bedroom, kicked him in the stomach, pinched him on his side and choked him.
"It's a very sad occasion," said Murfreesboro Police Maj. Clyde Adkison. "Valentine's Day now is a day will that will be remembered by not only her family, but his family and their friends and neighbors. It's not positive for anybody."
Jacob Pearman was jailed in Rutherford County without bond, and a preliminary hearing will likely take place next week.
