The Tennessee Highway Patrol is seeking the public's assistance for information on an apparent hit-and-run pedestrian fatality in Humphreys County, after a woman was found dead on Interstate 40 West Saturday morning.

According to investigators, a trucker saw the woman's body Saturday around 6:30 a.m. on I-40 near mile marker 137. The interstate's west bound side was closed until just before 1:30 p.m. while police gathered evidence.

Tennessee Highway Patrol officials identified the woman as Janice D. Kelley, 45, of Nashville.

State troopers said Kelley's car had apparently broken down at some point and she left her vehicle.

Investigators determined that Kelley had been struck by a vehicle at around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Kelley owned a business, Jazzies Accessories and More, in Madison.

Anyone who might have witnessed this incident or has any other information is urged to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol at 615-744-3091.
