PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) - Two western Kentucky officials fighting the
closing of fishing waters near dams on the Cumberland River have made
their case in Washington, D.C.
The Paducah Sun
reports Livingston County Judge-Executive Chris Lasher and Lyon County
Judge-Executive Wade White met Tuesday with Army Corps of Engineers Gen.
Michael Walsh in the office of U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield. Also attending
were U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander and U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper of Tennessee.
The Corps announced plans in December to close off
the waters near dams, which are plentiful with fish and attract
fishermen, for safety reasons.
The newspaper reports the group discussed a
compromise that would only close the head and tail waters near the dams
when the corps decides to spill water, but no decisions were made.
