NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
An artist from Nashville is trying to make a living by creating Islamic calligraphy in the Middle East.
Everitte Barbee, 24, said he fell in love with Islamic calligraphy when he traveled to Syria in 2009. Now, he has moved to Beirut, Lebanon, to earn a living with his beautiful drawings and has planned an ambitious project to challenge himself.
"I've got two major projects at the moment. One is the 'Koran of solidarity,' in which I am writing the entire Koran from start to finish in 114 pictures, or 'surahs,' so each 'surah' will have its own picture," he said.
Barbee even sells some of his work on the internet. Learn more at http://everitte.org/.
