Channel 4 News wins Emmy Awards

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Channel 4 News won Emmy Awards in six categories at the Mid-south Regional Emmys Awards held Saturday.

Channel 4 News won in the Breaking News category for coverage of the deadly 50-car pile-up on Vietnam Veterans Boulevard in December 2011. Individuals recognized for the coverage were news director Matthew Hilk, reporters Carley Gordon and Deanna Lambert-Thomas, meteorologist Paul Heggen, producer Tiffany Sawyer and photographers Ryan Smith and Nickie Jennings.

The station was also honored with the Best Newscast/Mornings for Channel 4 News Today. Individuals recognized were anchors Holly Thompson and Ian Reitz, producer Matthew Parriott, photographer Thomas Davis and reporter Julia Bruck.

Reporter Dennis Ferrier and photographer Jarod Rogers were awarded the Emmy for Serious Feature News Series for "A Soldier Comes Home," a Grundy County soldier's remains returning home after being a POW during the Korean War.

Reporter Terry Bulger and photographers Jason Wilson and Zina Bauman were awarded Emmy's for Light Feature News Series for Bulger's Beat.

Reporter-photographer Forrest Sanders was awarded the Emmy for Video Journalist for his submitted work of stories from the Fort Campbell beat.

And photographer-editor Brian Hallett was awarded the Emmy Award for Photographer/Short Form for his work on WSMV staff promotions videos.
