Murray State athletics bus involved in accident

EVANSVILLE, IN (WAVE) – A bus carrying athletes from Murray State University has crashed in southwestern Indiana.

The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. Central time (11:30 a.m. Eastern) on Interstate 69 at the 43 mile marker at the Pike County-Gibson County line. Indiana State Police said the bus slid on the ice, went off the road and came to rest on its left side.

Of the nine people on the bus, four suffered injuries. The most severe injury is reported to be a broken arm. All of the injured were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital in Dubois County for treatment.

The bus was one of two heading from Murray with members of the women's track and field team heading to Bloomington, IN. Another Murray State bus and a bus from the Pike County School Corporation picked up the remaining members of the team.

According to the school's website, the team was scheduled to take part in the Indiana Relays at Indiana University this weekend.

The injured have been identified as:

  • Katie Forsehy, 21
  • Tonia Pratt, 19
  • Abbie Oliver, 20
  • T.J. Wirth, 23

ISP said the driver of the bus was a coach of the track team. The driver was not injured.
