OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -
San Antonio, TX, police are investigating a Shawnee, KS, man's death.
Peter Clevinger, 25, fell 10 stories from a parking garage to his death Sunday in San Antonio. Police don't know if it was an accident or if he was pushed. They took three witnesses into custody Sunday.
He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base. Police said he may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.
No matter what happened, a Shawnee father is now struggling with the reality that his son is gone.
Peter Clevinger was a standout student and star athlete on the soccer field at St. Thomas Aquinas in Overland Park, KS, but now that he's passed, his family hopes he'll be remembered more for what he did off the field and for serving his country with honor.
"He was our family's glue. He brought joy to our hearts, his smile was magnetic," Ralph Clevinger, Peter's father, said.
Ralph Clevinger was still visibly distraught over the sudden death of his son. His family said the U.S. Air Force Airman, soccer star and loving son, brother and uncle will never be forgotten.
His father said Peter Clevinger was active in his community and could have done just about anything after graduating from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS, but he instead chose to serve.
"I'd like everyone to know that they lost with Peter a true Kansas Citian. He had all sorts of opportunities, but wanted to serve his county," Ralph Clevinger said.
Peter Clevinger's Shawnee home was full of loved ones coming to support his family, all still clearly shaken by their sudden loss.
"What Peter also leaves behind is a mother and father that will miss him very, very much. Our lives will never be the same," his father said as he choked back tears.
Now his family is trying to sort out the details surrounding his death, all the while finding solace in the support they've gotten from the community.
"We have been staggered by the number of people, in the short 72 hours, who have come to our home," Ralph Clevinger said. "We have taken great joy in all the stories they have shared."
Peter Clevinger's family is working to organize visitation services in his honor and, judging by the outpouring of support they've already gotten, they expect a packed house.
