Circus elephants parade through downtown Nashville

Posted: Updated:

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is performing in Nashville this weekend, but first they kicked off the arrival Thursday with the walk of the elephants.

It's a circus tradition with no price of admission. The early morning spectators just needed to find a spot along the route and wait for those pachyderms to stroll on by.

Glen and Angie Rose bundled up new daughter, Willa Mae, and brought her to watch the elephant stroll.

"This is maybe the biggest moment of her 4-month-old life, seeing the elephants in downtown Nashville," Angie Rose said.

After a short wait, the elephant parade was on, as five magnificent mammals - which means 15 tons of movement - moved with a surprising pep in their step.

It was a simple spectacle full of grace some 50 million years in the making.

"It was one minute and 15 seconds of action - pure action," Angie Rose said.

The Ringling Brothers circus opens up the big tent for its first show Friday morning at Bridgestone Arena.

Seven shows in all take place throughout the weekend.
