Community comes together to love rescue dog

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Not one person, but an entire east Nashville neighborhood, is making a difference by coming together to rescue a dog left out in the cold.

The dog was found on Brick Church Pike, so his temporary family calls him "Brick," and his story of survival all starts with one person - just like you - springing into action.

Brick's rescue story soon struck a chord.

"Turns out the owner couldn't take care of it, and they agreed to let us have the dog," said attorney Dudley Lightsey.

Strangers, neighbors and friends came together to care for Brick and take turns walking him during the adoption process.

"He's been on a chain for a year or two," said Alyson Holt, with the group East Community Action Network - or East C.A.N.

Holt says the help all started once Brick's story was posted on the East C.A.N. Facebook page.

"We put up a Facebook post and said, 'Hey, we'll be out of pocket, so just step up to the plate if something comes up,' and that's what everyone did," Holt said.

And that's what they continue to do.

While the potential dog walkers may now outnumber their four-legged friend, Brick can rest assured the days of being chained up and left in the cold are over thanks to an entire community paying it forward.

"I don't think this is an exception. I think this is an example of what goes on quite often," Lightsey said.

Brick has since found a forever home, but many other animals still in need of a loving family can be found at the East C.A.N. website.
