Rutherford Co. sheriff unveils SRO plan

Posted: Updated:

The sheriff of Rutherford County said Wednesday night he has a five-year plan to hire school resource officers for all of the county's schools.

Sheriff Robert Arnold said he would like to hire 11 more SROs to fully staff all of the county schools, which would cost about $1.2 million.

If county commissioners approve the sheriff's plan, a SRO would be in all elementary schools full time.

The plan would run from 2012 to 2017.

The county commission has not set a date to discuss the sheriff's plans.

Arnold said the plan is in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Connecticut late last year.
