The U.S. Chamber of Commerce will hold a job fair for military veterans and their spouses Thursday in Nashville.
The Hiring Our Heroes event will host 28 companies looking for new employees. Businesses scheduled to attend include Amazon, Verizon, insurance companies and several colleges.
"Once you join the military, you know exactly where you are going, from station to station, and it's different when you come on board into the civilian world," said Avery King, recruiter for Hospital Corporation of America.
Matt Roberts was once an attorney for the Army and has been looking for work for almost two years.
"Your military issues abroad are things like laws of war issues or targeting issues or issues of spending government money on maintaining the force abroad. Those are certainly things you wouldn't see here," said Matt Roberts, U.S. Army Jag veteran.
HCA recruiters said they will consider that experience when evaluating resumes.
Fourteen thousand veterans have found work at Hiring Our Heroes job fairs across the country.
Roberts hopes his continued involvement with the military is an asset instead of a liability.
"I think continued reserve service can be seen as a liability. You may be taken away from your employer, but you would hope your employer would look at it as an opportunity because we do receive continued training," said Roberts.
Those who attend are asked to dress business casual and bring their resume. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at LP Field.
