2 men identified after fiery south Nashville crash

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Officials have released the identities of two men killed in a fiery crash early Sunday morning in south Nashville.

The wreck happened just around 1:35 a.m. on Wheeler Drive.

Police said the two men, driver Larry Bowers, 48, of Nashville, and passenger Mitch Sweatt, 28, of Gallatin, were in the car when it veered off the road, hit a tree and caught fire near Tibbs Drive.

A neighbor said he called 911 and came out with a fire extinguisher to try to fight the flames, and he was soon joined by other neighbors. Their efforts were not enough to save the men, unfortunately.

The medical examiner had to use old health records to identify the two men in the car.
