Some charged long-distance to call across Rutherford Co.

Posted: Updated:

It may sound hard to believe, but people in one Middle Tennessee county now have to pay long-distance charges to call others in another part of the same county.

According to our news partners at the Daily News Journal, people in Murfreesboro and other parts of Rutherford County now have to dial long-distance to call their neighbors in Milton.

The change affects customers of DeKalb Telephone Cooperative after AT&T removed the Milton exchange from free countywide calling in Rutherford County.

Officials at DeKalb Telephone said they've received several complaints and are referring customers to AT&T.

A spokesperson for AT&T said the company is looking into the matter, and there is no charge for people in Milton to call other parts of Rutherford County.
