Saginaw Township Police warn of funny money

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Saginaw Township police are warning consumers of a counterfeit money scheme that is allegedly taking place in the area.

Four fake $20 bills have been recovered from El Paso Grill at 4880 Gratiot Avenue, just east of Center Road in Saginaw Township.

The phony bill was detected when a patron at the restaurant tried to pay the tab.  The cashier used a marker to determine that the bill was unauthentic.

The customer cooperated with police during the investigation and said he received four $20 bills, identified by police as counterfeits, from a local bank.

Saginaw Township police confiscated the bogus bills and are investigating the case, with help of the U.S. Secret Service.

This follows another recent instance of counterfeit money in Saginaw Township when several bills turned up at McDonald's and at KFC, both near the intersection of State and Center.
