MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
Murfreesboro police investigated and made an arrest in a bizarre driving under the influence case this weekend.
The incident started as a traffic stop early Sunday morning on the edge of the Middle Tennessee State University campus.
An officer tried to pull over a car, but the driver had to swerve off the road to miss a golf cart.
The officer let the driver go, but stopped the golf cart and its driver. The officer said he could tell golf cart driver, Andrew Whisenant, was drunk.
Whisenant works on campus in food service and admitted to taking the golf cart from the Murphy Center basketball arena.
He's charged with theft, driving under the influence and violation of the implied consent law.
Officers looked at Whisenant's phone, which showed he texted a friend about an hour before the arrest saying, "LOL we just stole a golf cart from MTSU!"
