ASHLAND CITY, TN (WSMV) -

A suspected burglar was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy late Monday night after authorities said he pulled a weapon.

The shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. Monday at the L&P Body Shop on North Vine Street.

A responding officer saw business's door kicked in and called in for backup from a Cheatham County sheriff's deputy.

Officials said an officer was trying to arrest a robbery suspect when the burglar pulled out a knife.

The man with the knife was shot by the deputy and later died at a hospital.  A second robbery suspect was also taken into custody.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking in to the case.

A woman whose son owns the business said the deceased man lives nearby and knows the owner.   She said she's not sure the man was at the location to rob the business.
