Lawrenceburg mom arrested after children swallow pills

Posted: Updated:

Lawrence County deputies have arrested a mother after her children swallowed some medication on Sunday.

According to WLX Radio, deputies were called to Crockett Hospital Sunday night to investigate allegations that two children had ingested some of their mother's pills.

Police said the 5-year-old and 6-year-old children were brought to the emergency room by their grandmother after taking some Lortab pills their mother, Rachel Kay Bond, 31, had left on her bed.

According to investigators, the children each took an unknown amount of pills and tried to wake Bond but could not get her to respond.

Police said the children then called their grandmother to come to their home on Second Creek Road. When the grandmother arrived, deputies said Bond was conscious and became angry when the grandmother insisted the children be taken to the hospital.

When deputies went to Bond's home to question her, they said they found her intoxicated and also found broken glass on the living room floor.

Investigators also said the bedroom smelled of marijuana.

According to police, Bond produced several bottles of prescription medication, along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Bond was arrested on charges of child neglect, domestic assault, drug possession and drug paraphernalia.
