EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Michael Messer scored 14 points, Jerome Jones added 13 and SIU-Edwardsville snapped a 4-game losing streak Saturday night with a 58-54 victory over Tennessee Tech.
Jones made 3 of Edwardsville's five 3-pointers, while Messer pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Cougars (5-9, 1-3 Ohio Valley), who managed to win despite shooting 39% from the field and going 17 of 33 from the free-throw line.
The Golden Eagles (7-10, 1-4) set the bar even lower, shooting 34% from the field and committing 21 turnovers. Jud Dillard led Tennessee Tech with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Dillard was 2 of 3 from 3-point range, but the rest of the Golden Eagles were 1 of 17 from behind the arc.
The Cougars went ahead for good on Tim Johnson's layup 4 minutes after halftime and later led by as many as nine.
Tennessee Tech still leads the series 3-2.
