Fairview mourns the loss of popular teacher, coach

Posted: Updated:

An entire community is mourning the loss of a popular teacher and coach who died Thursday in a crash on Interstate 40.

Donna Bledsoe, 55, taught scores of kids in Williamson County for nearly two decades as a physical education teacher and a coach for cross country, volleyball and basketball teams.

"I can't imagine her not being in this community," said friend C.C. Graves. "She has been a good friend to us all. She has been a major supporter of the school system - given her time, her energy, her efforts. She's just an amazing woman."

The district canceled all after-school events at the middle and high school Friday, and extra counselors were on hand to help students cope with the loss.

According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Bledsoe's vehicle struck an embankment along I-40 near mile marker 190 in Cheatham County about 5:40 p.m. The vehicle flipped, and she was ejected.

THP said Bledsoe was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Bledsoe leaves behind her husband of 32 years, Ricky Bledsoe; children Kori and Drew Bledsoe; as well as her parents and siblings.

A memorial is set for 2 p.m. Monday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to any of the Fairview Middle School or Fairview High School athletic programs.
