Montgomery Co. schools announce plan to increase security

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Montgomery County is the latest school system to announce plans to increase security on campuses.

In a press conference Friday morning, school leaders unveiled a security support plan to place off-duty law enforcement in elementary schools starting this month.

The plan would involve placing officers from both Clarksville police and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department at schools.

The increased police presence will cost $140,000 this spring. The funds will be made available by reallocating textbook growth funds and fuel savings.

School officials said they are still looking for ways to fund increased security next school year.
