CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A Montgomery County deputy was injured when his service weapon fired and he apparently shot himself in the leg during firearms training Thursday.
The sheriff's office is not releasing the injured deputy's name, but he is expected to survive.
Officials said the weapon fired as the deputy holstered the gun during firing range exercises.
The man suffered injuries to his upper thigh and calf and was transported to Gateway Medical Center.
As a matter of policy, sheriff's office investigators are looking into the incident.
