One of the best-selling games of all time, Monopoly is available in 111 countries and 43 languages.
(RNN) - Not since Mars discontinued the red M&M - which blessedly later returned - has a piece of your childhood been so threatened.
Monopoly says one of the iconic game tokens used to build your fake real estate empire will soon be retired from the game.
Fans on the Monopoly Facebook page get to vote on which of the classic pieces - the car, thimble, shoe, dog, wheelbarrow, battleship, top hat and iron - gets to stay. The token with the lowest vote total is sentenced to life in Monopoly jail, never to pass go or collect $200 again.
The token voted off the board will be replaced by a new token, also chosen by fans. A robot, diamond ring, cat, helicopter and guitar are in the running.
While early numbers show it's not looking good for the wheelbarrow, the final vote totals won't be revealed until Feb. 6.
If you have trouble with the thought of parting ways with any of the pieces, a "Golden Ticket" limited edition of the game will soon be available in Target stores with both the old and new pieces in the box.
With 275 million games sold, Monopoly is one of the best-selling games of all time. It's available in 111 countries and 43 languages.
Throughout the years, pieces have been introduced and sometimes retired from the game. A purse, lantern, rocking horse and horse and rider are among pieces removed over time. In all 20 tokens have been cast since the game was introduced in 1935.
