Bulger's Beat: Creative word game drives Hermitage man

Posted: Updated:

A creative mind, the ability to draw and a knack with words are what keeps one Hermitage man entertained these days.

Keith Carter calls them his Wordisms, which are more of a guessing game than a card game. Players get a deck and just try to guess what the image is really trying to tell them.

"Yes, it goes right over some people's heads," Carter said.

He puts whimsy with words, creating the guessing game in which hidden images lie deep within his drawings.

"I've got a very creative imagination, and I've had these visualizations like this since I was a child," he said.

The wit comes from a Brit who first came to Nashville for its music scene but kept bloviating fanciful words to his wife.

"On one of those days, after about the 300th time I said one of these to her, she raised her eyebrows and said, 'Keith, why don't you do something about them?' OK, I'm gonna print them," Carter said.

He did, and his creations are now available on Amazon.com and at Barnes and Noble.

His game is often the late night hit at dinner parties.

"They'll say, 'You know what, just one more before I leave.' And then they'll try that one and say, 'OK, just one more before I leave,'" Carter said.
