Franklin DUI suspect crashes, knocks out power

FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

A crash involving a driver suspected of driving under the influence earlier this week knocked out power to an area of Williamson County.

The wreck occurred at Del Rio Pike and Carlisle Lane at 8 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they found a white Jeep Wrangler had crossed over to the wrong side of the road and struck a telephone pole, which caused area-wide power outages.

Police said the driver, James Quarles, 59, of Franklin, TN, was intoxicated at the time of the wreck.

Witnesses said that Quarles had just left the scene of a hit-and-run crash in the parking lot at nearby Kroger on Hillsboro Road.

After being treated at a nearby medical facility, Quarles was charged with driving on a revoked license, DUI second offense and failure to maintain lane of travel.

He remains in the Williamson County Jail on a $6,000 bond
