GOODLETTSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Goodlettsville has a new police chief in charge, and he said he's ready to serve.
Gary Goodwin, a law enforcement veteran of almost four decades and former Metro police captain, took the oath Tuesday evening.
Goodwin and his family have long called Goodlettsville home, and he said it's a blessing to be able to serve his own community.
The department's highest priority will remain public service, he said.
"There is such a closeness, such a feeling of family, such a close knit group in a small department and in a small community," Goodwin said. "If there is anywhere that we can serve our citizens with the best possible quality - with compassion, with care, with concern - it's in this situation. And that's what we're gonna do."
The swearing-in ceremony also honored retiring Chief Richard Pope, who served for more than 40 years in Goodlettsville.
