LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A Las Vegas woman whose estranged husband was shot in the neck during an apparent murder-for-hire scheme was charged for her alleged role in the plot.

An arrest report released Monday revealed Amy Bessey, 42, surrendered to Metro police on Jan. 4, nearly two months after her husband Robert Bessey was shot in the neck while driving on Interstate 15 near the Valley of Fire.

Amy Bessey's son, Michael, and brother, Richard Pearson, were previously arrested and charge in connection to Robert's attempted slaying.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, investigators learned, through a series of interviews with family friends and relatives, that the Nov. 14 hit on Robert may have been planned in order to benefit from a payout of his nearly $400,000 life insurance policy and social security benefits.

The arrest report said Amy was in the midst of divorce proceedings at the time of the shooting.

Amy and Michael, in the arrest report, were witnessed as saying, by relatives and friends, that Robert physically and mentally abused them. The arrest report quotes Michael saying, as testified by a former Clark County Detention Center cellmate, he and his mother actually planned to kill Robert from May to November of last year.

"Life would be a better place without [my] father," the cellmate quoted Michael to investigators in the arrest report.

Michael also asserted in the arrest report, through recorded jailhouse conversations and witness testimony, that he was forced into the plot by his mother and uncle.

For her part, Amy, as witnessed by her sister-in-law in the arrest report, implied her involvement in the plot.

"That's what happens when you send a boy to do [a] woman's work," the arrest report has Amy saying, according to her sister-in-law.

The arrest report also places Amy Bessey in a previous attempt to kill her husband. Amy's sister-in-law, in the report, told investigators that she offered $50,000 to Michael's former girlfriend to poison Robert.

In addition, the arrest report shows Robert making claims to investigators that Amy and her 21-year-old son carried on a close, "unnatural" relationship.

Amy turned herself into police at Metro headquarters, but not before, pleading to her husband to drop the charges in the case, according to Robert in the arrest report.

She faces charges including attempted murder with a deadly weapon, battery with substantial bodily harm and conspiracy to commit murder.
