Plane makes emergency landing on I-40

Posted: Updated:

SOMERVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Two brothers, flying in a small airplane, had to land on a Tennessee interstate highway when the engine developed a problem.

WMC-TV reported pilot Trevor Prather and his brother, Nathaniel Prather, were flying back to West Tennessee from Sikeston, Mo., Sunday night when the plane engine began sputtering.

Nathaniel told the TV station they were about eight miles from the Fayette County Airport when the problem developed. Air traffic controllers told Trevor to try gliding to the airport, but the plane didn't have enough altitude.

The craft came down on Interstate 40, landing between two cars. No one was injured and the plane wasn't damaged.

The FAA will investigate the incident.
