Child rape suspect ordered to hire own lawyer

LAWRENCEBURG, TN (WSMV) -

An 82-year-old man accused of raping multiple children at a church is not qualified for public counsel, a judge ruled Friday.

The suspect, Eugene Hourihan, now has until Tuesday to hire a lawyer.

The judge ruled that Hourihan has enough assets to pay for a lawyer himself.

Police arrested him last month after a parent said they saw Hourihan assaulting a child at a Nazarene church.

Investigators believe there are at least three victims under the age of 13.

Hourihan is scheduled to be in court Tuesday.
