NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
The Tennessee Department of Transportation plans to scale back how often you see the number of traffic fatalities posted on its electronic signs above highways.
Beginning in April 2012, the signs have shown a running total of how many people have died on roads across the state.
The goal is to increase awareness about highway safety, but the TDOT commissioner said the department will only show the numbers on Fridays rather than the daily displays now posted.
On all other days, the signs will be used to discourage texting while driving, drunk driving and other dangers, along with passing along important traffic and construction messages.
