Child recovered after car stolen in Donelson

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A child was safely recovered after the car he was in was stolen Monday afternoon from a BP service station in Donelson, said police.

The theft occurred at the BP located at 2471 McGavock Pike around 5:15 p.m.

Police said the mother got out of the car to pay for gas but came out and found the car, which belongs to her sister, and her child gone.

Someone called police about 30 minutes later to say that a young child was locked in a car at a motel on Murfreesboro Road.

The child's mother showed up at the scene and recovered the 3-year-old around 6:15 p.m.

The person of interest is still at large and believed to be female.

Police are reviewing surveillance video to try to determine who took the vehicle.
