Suspicious fire destroys Joelton home

JOELTON, TN (WSMV) -

A Joelton house is in ruins after a  suspicious fire early Saturday.

The blaze broke out just before 6 a.m. near the corner of Clarksville Pike and Rawlings Road.

When firefighters arrived, flames and thick plumes of smoke were billowing from the home.  First responders immediately entered the house to make sure that no one was trapped inside.

"When you approach a scene and have a house this heavily involved in fire, there is always a concern that there may be someone inside," said Nashville District Fire Chief Ricky Taylor.

As crews approached the home, they noticed that the back door had already been kicked in.

"The investigators are already on the scene," Taylor said.  "They are going to start their portion as soon as the firefighters finish the extinguishing process."

Taylor added that the home was vacant and for sale.

"At this point, we're going to consider it a suspicious fire," Taylor said.
