NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is stopping all road closures on interstates and state highways for the holiday season.

Tennessee roadways that were closed for construction will open at 6:00 Saturday morning, December 22, and will stay open until 6:00 Wednesday morning, January 2, 2013.

Even though the roads will be open, there might be construction workers still on sites. TDOT is recommends all drivers to still follow posted speed limit signs because they will still be enforced.

AAA projects 93.3 million Americans will travel during the holidays this year, 84.4 million will travel by automobile, and 2 million will drive through Tennessee.

The national gas average will slowly drop until the end of the year and the average on New Year's Day will be $3.20-3.40, according to AAA.
