Strong wind gusts cause damage, bring colder temps

Posted: Updated:

Strong wind gusts are likely to blame for causing power outages, downed trees and damage in west Nashville when panes of glass from a building landed on a parked vehicle.

The wind is part of a large winter storm that also brought rain to Middle Tennessee and several inches of snow in the upper Midwest.

Nashville Electric Service reported at least 2,000 customers without power across Davidson County as of 4 p.m.

Nobody was injured when several large panes of glass were dislodged and fell onto a Toyota SUV parked near Harris Teeter on Ridgefield Way about 2 p.m.

The vehicle sustained significant damage, and the road was closed as crews shoveled the hundreds of pounds of glass that fell into the street.

Wind gusts in Nashville were measured as high as 55 mph on Thursday. A wind advisory is in effect until midnight, and 4WARN meteorologist Dan Thomas said to expect more wind and colder temperatures Friday, with a high of 42 degrees.
