FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -
Schools remain vigilant against any threats of violence following a shooting last week at a Connecticut elementary school.
There was more evidence of that Tuesday in Williamson County when a private school closed its doors after receiving a disturbing phone call.
School leaders say the call they received was not threatening, but they say it was disturbing enough they chose to cancel classes.
Even though sheriff's department officials now believe the call was most likely a hoax, they are choosing to keep the school closed Wednesday, too.
The call came in Monday to St. Matthew Catholic School, so school leaders alerted parents and sent students home early, citing the Connecticut shooting as reason to be cautious.
"That was just so shocking, I think that just naturally heightens our concern," said Rick Musacchio, with the Diocese of Nashville.
School administrators said the canceled classes did not pose a logistical problem for the school calendar, because they primarily had Christmas activities planned for the days.
By closing, they say it also will give the Williamson County Sheriff's Office time to investigate and identify the caller.
