KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee guard Andraya Carter likely faces four to six months of rehabilitation after undergoing surgery Thursday to repair a labral tear in her right shoulder.
Lady Vols coach Holly Warlick had announced Wednesday that Carter would miss the remainder of the season. The 13th-ranked Lady Vols are seeking a hardship waiver for Carter that would allow the 5-foot-9 freshman to earn a medical redshirt.
Carter had hurt the shoulder initially late in her senior season at Buford (Ga.) High School and aggravated the injury this season. Carter has averaged 5.3 points, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals in 20.6 minutes this season. She started the Lady Vols' first five games before coming off the bench in their last two contests.
Tennessee next plays Sunday at No. 18 Texas.
