CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A child was found safe after he was kidnapped during a car theft in Clarksville on Monday night.

Police said a woman left her 7-year-old son, Cornelius, in the car when she went inside a Dollar General on Madison Street to pick up some medicine.

The woman, Sharonda Belvin, told police she thought she left her car running, thinking she was only going to be inside for a brief time. When Belvin returned 10 to 15 minutes later, she found the car stolen.

She then called 911, and the boy was found just down the street outside a Walmart. The child was unharmed and was able to give police a description of his abductor, which led police to Willie Cole.

Police said Cole was caught with the stolen car keys inside a nearby Kmart.  The stolen car was found at the Walmart.

Cole was out on bail on unrelated robbery charges. He's back in jail and facing multiple charges.

Cole said he saw the car running and took it because he needed the bail money for previous charges.
