A Murfreesboro man is in custody, charged with sex crimes against two 7-year-old girls.

According to the Murfreesboro Police report, Bret Freeman, 23, gave a graphic confession of what he'd done to the two children.

Cheri Pike, the grandmother of one of the alleged victims, told Channel 4 she contacted DCS six months ago to report that her daughter wasn't taking proper care of the girl, but Pike said caseworkers didn't listen.

Pike said she had met Freeman and had an uneasy feeling about him. She blamed DCS for not moving faster to remove the girl from what she considered a neglectful parent.

"My granddaughter has been sexually assaulted. She's been sexually battered by a 23-year-old man who has the mentality of a 12- or 15-year-old, that my daughter decided was OK to babysit this child? DCS has dropped the ball and they seem to continue to drop it. Then when you question them, or put them on the spot, it's not their problem. They're overworked," Pike said.

Pike said she told DCS that the girl was often left alone or with questionable sitters like Freeman and that the girl was often bruised and dirty. DCS wasn't able to research the history of the case by our deadline.
