1 injured in two-alarm hotel fire near airport

Posted: Updated:

One person was injured after a two-alarm fire Tuesday afternoon at a hotel near the Nashville International Airport.

The fire was reported after 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express on Airport Circle Drive.

Deputy Chief Kim Lawson with the Nashville Fire Department said the fire began near a set of vending machines in a second floor hallway. It was soon extinguished by the hotel's sprinkler system.

Witnesses said heavy smoke was visible on the second and third floors, and guests were evacuated from the area.

A man was injured when he jumped from a second floor balcony and suffered a minor shoulder injury, Lawson said.

The fire did not produce significant damage, but there has not been any information released on the status of the hotel's 200 room bookings for the night.
