NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police have arrested a suspect in the stabbing of a man Tuesday morning at Peeler Park in Madison.

Robert Earl Dodson, 26, is charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed Scottie Selvage, 34.

Selvage, who is homeless, told investigators that four acquaintances, three men and a woman, picked him up in a green sports utility vehicle Tuesday morning.

According to police, Selvage said he and the four others went to Peeler Park after discussing marijuana usage and were on the greenway when Dodson pulled a knife and stabbed him several times. According to Selvage - Dodson and the others, who he identified as Kevin, Cody and Pam - then fled.

Selvage said he had been involved in a dispute with Dodson earlier in the week.

Officers said a passerby in the park found Selvage wounded, and called 911.

Selvage remains in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police said Dodson was arrested on a multi-count sex crimes indictment in February 2006. He was convicted of two counts of attempted aggravated sexual battery against a child and received a total sentence of eight years. He registered as an ex-convict in January.
