The man accused of killing the mother of his grandchildren is set to make his first court appearance on Monday.
Michael Curtis, who has been charged with first-degree murder for the beating death of Kayla Qualls, will appear in Coffee County General Sessions Court this morning. The hearing will likely be to find out who will represent him.
Curtis' son had two children with Qualls.
Authorities have not released a possible motive in the murder. However, investigators said Qualls and Curtis' son have had custody issues in the past.
