CROSS PLAINS, TN (WSMV) -

Investigators have identified the semi driver who was killed in a crash in Robertson County on I-65 Saturday morning as Gary D. Bryant, of Columbus, Indiana.

Police said his semi-truck veered off of I-65 southbound around 1 a.m. near Cross Plains. Bryant died at the scene.

According to state troopers, Bryant exited the roadway to the right for some reason, went through the guardrail and down a steep ravine.

It's not clear what caused the accident, but the truck was hauling hydrogen peroxide and some type of acid.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has launched an investigation, and the Cross Plains firefighters responded to help with the cleanup.

Bryant was wearing his seat belt, according to THP officials.
