A Crossville couple is accused of driving to meet a southern Kentucky girl they met online and with whom they planned to have sex.
Michael McCarrell, 46, and Amanda McCarrell, 27, are charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after meeting the 17-year-old Glasgow, KY, girl Wednesday.
Police said the McCarrells were stopped by a Metro officer after he spotted them failing to use a turn signal on Murfreesboro Pike.
The 17-year-old victim was sitting in the front seat between the McCarrells, and they could not tell the officer the girl's name. When the officer asked how they met the girl, they first said "on Facebook" but later admitted they contacted her on a dating website.
After receiving permission to search Michael McCarrell's cell phone, the officer found lewd text messages sent to the victim.
Police said Amanda McCarrell admitted she knew the victim was underage and that they intended to have sex with the girl.
The teen was unharmed, and police said her father drove to Nashville to bring her home.
