Room in the Inn kicks off program to help feed homeless

Posted: Updated:

You can help provide healthy meals to the homeless just by adding $1 to your tab when dining out this holiday season.

Room in the Inn began its annual Street Smart program last week, and more than 20 restaurants and three food trucks are participating this year.

When dining at one those places, just add an extra dollar to your bill, which will go to Room in the Inn in its mission to provide meals, emergency services, transitional programs and other help to people rebuilding their lives.

"Everything makes a difference. It helps us with healthy food choices. Instead of starchy meals, we like to provide more vegetables, helping with chronic health issues, having a better choice of what they have to eat," said Rachel Hester, executive director at Room in the Inn.

Room in the Inn serves more than 400 people each day in Nashville.

The Street Smarts program lasts through Dec. 31, and to see a list of participating restaurants and food trucks, visit:
