No separate wheel tax sticker in Rutherford Co.

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Rutherford County residents will be getting one fewer decal when they renew auto registrations and other Tennessee counties can follow suit.

County Clerk Lisa Duke Crowell told The Daily News Journal the county will save about $13,000 by not issuing separate wheel tax stickers. Car owners will be handed a yellow sheet with their renewal, explaining there is no longer a separate decal.

The county's $50 wheel tax will still be collected.

Crowell said Rutherford County Mayor Ernest Burgess supported her idea and the county's legislative delegation backed it.

The enabling legislation allows any county in Tennessee to do the same.
