Jason Michael Strickland
COLUMBIA, TN (WSMV) -
Authorities in Maury County say a man has surrendered after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian in Columbia early Wednesday morning.
Jason Michael Strickland, 22, is accused of hitting Benito Fuentez, 62, on Campbellsville Pike near Edge Park Court and driving away.
Police tell Channel 4 Fuentez lived about a mile from where he was found, and typically walked to work about two miles from the scene.
The man usually left his house at 3 a.m. and police believe he was struck sometime between 3 and 4 a.m.
Investigators say a driver spotted Fuentez along the side of the road just before 7 a.m.
Neighbors say the road, with a posted speed limit of 35 mph, often attracts speeding drivers.
Strickland is charged with reckless vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a fatality accident and failure to stop and render aid.
