LaVergne man shot during home invasion

Posted: Updated:

A Rutherford County man is in critical condition after he was shot several times during an early-morning home invasion.

A woman called 911 at 2:47 a.m. Tuesday to report her boyfriend or husband had been shot multiple times at their home on Hickory Street.

Investigators said two men had forced entry into their home and a scuffle ensued.

The shooting victim was identified as Randy Malone, 26, who suffered a gunshot wound below the waist and was pistol whipped.

Malone is in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Four adults and two children were at the home when the home invasion occurred.  Police said the family moved into the home Monday and believe it was a random attack.

The two attackers escaped before police arrived. Witnesses said one of the men had a bandana over his face.
