Four local athletes honored with Mr. Football Award - WSMV Channel 4

Four Midstate athletes were recipients of the TSSAA Mr. Football Award on Monday.

Tyler Coen of Gordonsville, Jalen Hurd from Beech, Corn Elder from Ensworth and Derek Barnett from Brentwood Academy won top honors in their classification. Elder won Division II-AA Back of the year for the second straight season.

More than 500 people attended the awards banquet at Embassy Suites.

Coen, Hurd and Elder will have another game to play as their teams advanced to the championships this week at Tennessee Tech.

The Midstate championship games are:

• Thursday, 7 p.m., Ensworth vs. Memphis University School, Division II-AA championship
• Friday, 11 a.m., Gordonsville vs. Huntingdon, Class 1A championship
• Friday, 7 p.m., Columbia vs. Beech, Class 5A championship
• Saturday, 11 a.m., Friendship Christian vs. Adamsville, Class 2A championship
