Teams battling for berths in BlueCross Bowl

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Several Middle Tennessee teams are battling tonight for a berth in next week's BlueCross Bowl in Cookeville.

In Class 6A, unbeaten Siegel faces unbeaten Maryville at home at 7 p.m., but Stars quarterback Brent Stockstill has a partially torn ACL in his knee.

Stockstill, son of MTSU head coach Rick Stockstill, suffered the injury last week in his team's win over Riverdale.

Doctors have fitted him with a brace, and he'll try to play on it.

The winner of that game will play the winner of Mt. Juliet at unbeaten Memphis Whitehaven.

The undefeated Beech Buccaneers are at unbeaten Jackson North Side tonight in Class 5A.

The Bucs' hopes will ride on junior tailback Jalen Hurd, who has rushed for more than 2,500 yards.

The other Class 5A semifinal has Powell at Columbia.

In Class 4A, Knoxville Fulton is at 13-0 Giles County. The winner will meet the winner of Jackson Liberty at Covington.

In Class 3A, Christ Presbyterian hosts Milan in a rematch of last year's semifinal, and Christian Academy of Knoxville is at Elizabethton.

Defending Class 2A champion Friendship Christian hosts Boyd-Buchanan from Chattanooga in a semifinal matchup, and Adamsville is at Dresden.

In Class 1A, Gordonsville hosts Coalfield, and Nashville Christian visits Huntingdon with playoff berths on the line.

All playoff games begin at 7 p.m. local time. Catch the highlights tonight on Channel 4 News at 10.
