State purchases White Co. waterfall, natural area

Posted: Updated:

A popular Tennessee waterfall now officially belongs to the state.

The Department of Environment has purchased the Virgin Falls State Natural Area in White County, just east of Sparta.

The state had leased the natural area since the 1970s.

A combination of public money and private donations paid for the site. It is now safe from any sort of development.
