Shoppers out early for Black Friday deals

Posted: Updated:

Bargain hunters are out in force in search of holiday deals on Black Friday.

In West Nashville, shoppers camped outside late Thursday in hopes of getting the best deals.  Crowds lined up outside of the Target in Mt. Juliet before it opened at 9 p.m. Thursday.

Shoppers cheered when Cool Springs Galleria employees opened the doors.

"There's a lot of different stuff on sale and a bunch of different coupons in the magazine. I figured why go to Walmart when there's so many different things here," said Cool Springs shopper Matthew Cooper.

At 5 a.m., hundreds of shoppers flooded into the Bass Pro Shop at Opry Mills.

People started lining up outside retailers like Best Buy long before the turkey was even in the oven, banking on those doorbuster deals.

"There's a 40-inch TV for $179," said Michael Martin, 17. "There's a NOVO computer for $200-something."

Armed with blankets, laptops and their circulars, bargain hunters across Middle Tennessee came ready to shop.

"We've been here since Wednesday at 11 last night," said shopper Lynda Braithwaite. "He wanted a TV, he wanted a computer.  They said  you don't have to stay with us," said Braithwaite, a mother of three. "We decided one of us was going to stay."

Some people are buying for family and friends, others for purely practical reasons.

"They have great deals and I need to go off to college," said Martin. "It's affordable. It's the only way we can afford to have high-end equipment."

But are the deals really worth it?

"When you're doing it for somebody else, for your family, a child in your family, it makes it worth it," said Mekesha Agee.

Electronic Express locations throughout Middle Tennessee also have special deals for customers.
